Mall Shops Concept
Lakewood Center was auto-oriented, but once shoppers got out of their car they could stroll the car-free mall under wide overhangs that shaded them from the Southern California sun. The long row of shops opened on a parking lot sunk below the level of Lakewood Boulevard. The design allowed the stores to rise attractively above a sea of parked cars.
